Languages: Language families and mutual relations of beastpeople languages

Language setting elements.

We have already covered the more obscure, dead, rare or secret languages of the human cultures of Aporue, in the Orbis Furum.

We shall now loook at the often very different-sounding languages of the various beastpeople species of Aporue and the languages and dialects of their particular cultures. Today: An overview of the language families of beastpeople languages.

"Beastish" language group

Very rough and very tentative family tree of Aporue's beastpeople languages. This is purely an umbrella term, as all the languages are in generally very different language families of their own.

Mustelid-folk language family
* Martenfolk language subfamily
** Proto-Martish / Early Martish
*** Ancient Martish
*** Middle Martish
**** Common Martish (developed from a particular variety of Middle Martish)
***** Contemporary dialect variations of Common Martish ("Modern Martish", in a sense ?)
***
Sablemen languages and dialects (share some similarities with Ancient Martish and Middle Martish, but are otherwise standalone)
* Wolverfolk language subfamily
** Proto-Wolvertongue / Proto-Gulonic (relation to Proto-Martish possible but unclear)
*** Old Wolvertongue / Old Gulonic
**** Continental Middle Wolvertongue (and derived Contemporary Wolvertongue varieties)
**** Hrímlandic Middle Wolvertongue (and derived Contemporary Wolvertongue varieties)
* Stoatfolk language subfamily
** Proto-Stoatjab (distant relation to Proto-Martish possible but unclear, and more distant than with Gulonic)
*** Archaic Stoatjab
**** Middle Stoatjab
***** Contemporary Stoatjab
* Otterfolk language subfamily
** Proto-Otrin language (seems to be a de facto language isolate, unrelated to Martish and its siblings, other than a few superficial similarities)
*** Old Otrin
**** Seashore Otrin regional dialects
***** Contemporary Seashore Otrin dialects
**** Inland Otrin regional dialects
***** Contemporary Inland Otrin dialects

Hedgefolk language family
* Proto-Hedger language / Proto-Pricklish
** Archaic Pricklish
*** Middle Pricklish - includes the development of "Spiny" dialects and argots
**** Present Pricklish - includes more recent forms of "Spiny" dialects and argots

Newtfolk language family (generally rather poorly understood and not that deeply researched)
* Proto-Newtspeak / Proto-Nixic
** Ancient Newtspeak (Nixic), Archaic Newtspeak (Nixic)
*** Middle Newtspeak (Nixic) ?
**** Modern Newtspeak (Nixic)

Crustfolk language family (generally poorly understood and not that deeply researched)
* Lobsterfolk language subfamily
** Lobsterolk dialects - merely suspected, as the language is near-impossible to decipher by humans or other beastpeoples
** Lobsterfolk posture and gesture dialects - the more decipherable element of the species' language, but still very mysterious
* Crabfolk language subfamily
** Crabfolk dialects - merely suspected, as the language is near-impossible to decipher by humans or other beastpeoples
** Crabfolk posture and gesture dialects - the more decipherable element of the species' language, but still very mysterious

Ravenfolk language family (hypothetical language family, as the ravenfolk are likely only legendary)
* Proto-Ravenscaw
** Ancient Ravenscaw
*** Modern Ravenscaw ???
